While modern life leaves little opportunity for fire-side tales, we can connect with one another through the stories we share. In this first installment of Spatial Perspectives, Jon Caris (GIS Specialist) describes his work at Smith College’s Spatial Analysis Lab and shares his reflections on cross-curricular uses of GIS, the growing interest in spatial humanities, and much more.As stories draw us together and enrich our lives, I feel privileged to share the narratives of colleagues engaged in spatial teaching and study in the liberal arts. I hope you enjoyed this podcast interview with Jon as much as I enjoyed working with him to create it.
Please look for future installments of Spatial Perspectives as I reach out to other members of our community to share their stories. My goal is to build a series of podcasts that help liberal arts colleges share knowledge and reflect on the role of spatial teaching and research in the undergraduate environment. As this body of work grows, I expect to see issues of common interest emerge, along with a clearer picture of the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
